PhD POSITION IN CONTEMPORARY EAST EUROPEAN HISTORY

The PhD position is related to a project within the Program on East European Cultures and Societies (PEECS - www.hf.ntnu.no/peecs/home/), "Imagining the West: Perceptions of the Western ‘Other’ in 19th-20th Century Eastern Europe and Turkey", funded by the Norwegian Research Council.

Within the frameworks of "Imagining the West", the dissertation project to be launched by the successful applicant should focus on the communist era in Hungary or Poland.

The applicant must submit a project description for the research s/he intends to carry out during the period of the scholarship (5–10 pages). Applications must also contain information about education, examinations and previous experience, including the names of possible references. Certified copies of testimonies and documents must be attached. Three copies of publications and any other relevant work the applicant wishes to be considered in the assessment should be enclosed.

The scholarship is for a period of three years. The successful applicant will be attached to the Department of History and Classical Studies. For the scholarship period, with the exception of research trip(s) required by the project, residence in Trondheim is a prerequisite. The position is remunerated according to salary level 39 in Norway's national salary scheme, gross NOK 24 333 per month, of which 2 % is deducted for the State Pension Plan.

The successful applicant must complete the PhD programme (dissertation and coursework component) within the period of the appointment. The appointment will be made in accordance with the current regulations for such appointments at Norwegian universities. The successful applicant must agree to the conditions laid down for public employees. A contract will be drawn up regarding the period of appointment.
