The Center for U.S. Studies / Martin-Luther-Universitaet Halle-Wittenberg announces the
IVth Interdisciplinary Seminar in American History for undergraduate students:
This interdisciplinary seminar will look at one of the most important American psychologists and philosophers of the 19th century, emphasizig the role of pragmatism in psychology and James' concept of the "stream of consciousness." We will analyze his thought in the context of American culture, the rise of science, and international relations. The seminar will be team-taught in English by a historian and a psychologist. Students will receive a reader of approx. 500 pages one month prior to the course. During the seminar week, participants will meet for three discussion sessions per day. Students will also use the libraryz and computer labs for their own research. At the end of the week, participants will embark on their own research project in order to earn credit for a full semester course at the Martin Luther University.
Thanks to a generous grant from the United States Information Service, accommodations and meals will be provided at no cost. Students must cover their travel expenses themselves. The Center for U.S. Studies invites undergraduate students of history, sociology, psychology, and American studies to apply.
