EDITORIAL ASSISTANT

Fixed term (seven months) 100% E12 TV-L

to join the team producing the English-language document edition The Persecution and Murder of the European Jews by Nazi Germany, 1933-1945

Editorial Assistant

The project:
Preparation of an English-language version of the 16-volume document collection Die Verfolgung und Ermordung der europäischen Juden durch das nationalsozialistische Deutschland, 1933-1945 (VEJ). The English version, entitled The Persecution and Murder of the European Jews by Nazi Germany, 1933–1945 (PMJ), is updated and adapted for an English-language audience. Seven volumes have already appeared in English and currently four further volumes are in different stages of preparation. The project partners are the Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History, the University of Freiburg, and the German Federal Archives, in cooperation with the International Institute for Holocaust Research at Yad Vashem. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Start date: 1 October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter until 30 April 2025.

The post is based in Berlin-Lichterfelde at the Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History.

Required qualifications and experience:
- Completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree on a relevant topic
- Interest and expertise in the history of the Second World War and the Holocaust
- Native or near-native proficiency in English
- Near-native proficiency in German
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

The successful candidate will be involved in:
- XML database editing and assistance with index creation
- Assisting with the management of external translators
- Updating and developing the project website
- Checking and correcting of documents and footnotes during the production process
