This issue brings some major changes to the editorial team at Central Europe. Peter Zusi and Egbert Klautke have taken over from Richard Butterwick as Editors of the journal. Robert Gray has replaced Angus Walker as the Reviews Editor, and Christopher Tooke has taken over from Sarah Marks as Assistant Editor. The current issue opens with Robert Evans’s article on the relation between ‘Confession and Nation in Early Modern Europe’, which, he argues, has been largely neglected by historians of the region in the Anglo-Saxon world. Martyna Deszczyńska’s article describes the relations between state and church in the Duchy of Warsaw between 1807 and 1813. Robert Pynsent’s article on ‘The Ideologization of the Child’ examines the fraught relation between nationalism and conceptions of childhood in several mid-twentieth-century Czech novels. Ilona Pallasvuo reviews one of the major Czech novels to appear in 2009, as well as the scandal it provoked; a full section of reviews completes this issue. In upcoming issues we look forward to complementing the main articles with forums for discussion on the current state and future development of the various fields served by this journal.
