At the 2019 Social Science History Conference in Chicago (21-24 November 2019; https://ssha.org/) we intend to organize a panel on the Theory, Methodology and Practice of Applied History. We welcome papers that discuss how social scientists and historians can bring historical research to bear on contemporary concerns and (or) future possibilities. How can we promote long-term thinking when considering the causes and implications of present affairs and issues? How can we connect past, present and future in a meaningful way?
We welcome contributions from specialists in all branches of the humanities and social sciences who adopt a historical approach: from historians and anthropologists, to political scientists and sociologists, and from experts in the history of antiquity to those working on the very recent past, thus bringing together long-term perspectives and various approaches and methodologies. It is our intention to work towards publishing the papers in the Journal of Applied History (Brill).
