The University of Sussex holds around 50 collections from German-Jewish families who came to the UK as refugees in the 1930s. Family archives can be a very rich source for researchers interested in personal relationships and domestic life as well as larger historic events.

In this one day-workshop scholars who have worked with family archives, such as the ones at the University of Sussex, will come together to present their work. Speakers include Emeritus Professor Edward Timms, Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, Dr. Andrea Hammel and Dr. Deborah Schultz.

This event will also be an opportunity to see a newly created website showing digitised images of materials from the German Jewish family archives illustrating key developments in the history of the German Jewish relationship.
