The seminar will deal with the challenges presented by the great number of modern data processing programs and the seemingly endless possibilities available for historians in the digital realm. Approaching these phenomena as tools, we will explore their benefits and limitations. During the seminar we will discuss relevant theories and explore different paths to making use of digital resources for historians. The basic steps of researching, collecting, processing and presenting data will be considered with the help of examples from medieval history. However, the theories and methods that will be scrutinized are not limited to any particular time period.

The class is offered as a webinar, which means that to participate every potential student will need access to a computer, a stable internet connection (DSL or better), a headset with microphone and an activated flash-plugin for the licensed software Adobe Connect.

If you are interested, please send an email (including a short CV) to manuel.kamenzin@zegk.uni-heidelberg.de. The deadline is 21. July 2017. Please be aware that the number of participants is limited due to technical requirements.

The initiative „Webinars in den kleinen Fächern“ is supported by the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst in Baden-Württemberg (Ministry of Science, Research and Art in Baden-Württemberg).
