Outlook of the Summer School: In Germany - a country of immigrants - what counts as one of the biggest tasks for society as a whole is the integration of people with diverse backgrounds (ethnicity, age, gender, etc.) into a society which regards itself as inclusive. Therefore, a particular challenge is finding a way to properly utilise and develop the potential of such a diversified society. Societies that are open to such varying diversities are the main focus of research in so-called “post-migrant approaches.” These approaches shift the perspective from migration itself to the processes resulting from it- for example, social and political transformations, conflicts, and identity construction. In this context, the topic of integration and labour in post-migrant societies is of enormous importance, for it is within this area that participation within society is made possible. In light of the shortage of skilled labour and the current climate of demographic transition, integration can furthermore positively influence developments in the labour market. By extensively discussing relevant practices and concepts, Summer School 2017 revolves around the topic of integration with a special focus on how to further develop the structures and processes of vocational training and employment in an age of diversification.
