The open access e-journal 'Fascism' will be publishing a theme issue in April 2017 about the subject of 'War Veterans and Fascism'. The theme issue aims to focus on the role of veterans' associations in European countries in the interwar period, focussing on the role of this type of civil society organisation with regards to contemporary political culture, international initiatives to peace and reconciliation, and the rise of Fascism in each country. The comparative and transnational approach, based on the recent historiography on veterans' movements, would provide a correction of the image of 'brutalisation of political culture' and shed new light on the connections between veterans and the rise of Fascism.
Guest editors of the theme issue are Kristian Mennen (Berlin) and Wim van Meurs (Nijmegen). The special includes contributions by the international experts John Paul Newman (Yugoslavia), Constantin Iordachi (Hungary and Romania), and Martina Salvante (Italy).
We are looking for two additional contributions on Western European case studies. Experts for this particulare subject are invited to submit a case study for this topic in a Western European country. The deadline for the article submission is 1 November.
