Newspapers are highly estimated historical sources, and their digital transformation multiplies their usage. Current digital news media constantly develop new channels and modes of communication, redefine the roles of all stakeholders and transform the news into an infinite process.

The IFLA 2014 Pre-Conference has its focus on the transformation aspects of both, digitized as well as born digital news media.

The main theme of the Conference:

has the following sub-themes – and papers chosen for presentation should address, but are not limited to:

- Reporting the news in the digital and social media age: trends and how these impact the information industry
- Latest initiatives and technologies in newspaper (e-)preservation and access
- The advertising industry and its influence on the news media
- Text mining newspapers and news content
- Issues of e-legal deposit: online news and newspapers
- Services built on digital newspaper collections
