Call for papers
The aim of this conference is to discuss the relevance of Freudian ideas
to contemporary work in the field of cultural studies. Leading scholars from
a diverse set of disciplines within the social sciences and humanities will
present papers around themes including ritual, memory, feminine jouissance
and the voice, realism and the gaze.
International participants:

HENRIETTA MOORE, Director of the Institute for Gender Studies and
Reader in Anthropology at the London School of Economics, will discuss
psychoanalytic approaches to ritual.

MEGAN VAUGHAN, Professor of Commonwealth History at the University
of Oxford, will discuss memory and history.

RENATA SALECL, Director of the Institute for Criminology at the University
of Ljubljana, will discuss feminine jouissance and the voice.

ELISABETH COWIE, Reader in Media Studies at the University of Canterbury,
will discuss a Lacanian approach to documentaries.

GLEN BOWMAN, Lecturer in Media Studies at the University of Canterbury,
will discuss nationalism and identity.
-
HENRY KRIPS, Professor of Communication at the University of Pittsburgh,
Visiting Fellow at the IFK, will discuss realism and the gaze.

KIM LANE SCHEPPELE, Co-Director, Center for Gender Studies, Central
European University, Budapest
Interested Austrian scholars are invited to either present papers related
to the above stated themes or to act as commentators.
