The Carleton Conferences bring together scholars from a range of disciplines
for three days of papers on the history of the family. The program for 1997
comprises some 200 individual papers in 63 panels, as well as three plenary
lectures. The plenary speakers are:
Other participants in the conference, who include many of the leading scholars in their fields, will come from across Canada, the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Australasia. Panels cover a broad range of themes including gender (highlighted at this conference), sexuality, law, religion, culture, and politics. Geographical coverage includes North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Australia, and papers traverse history from the classical period to modern times.
The conference begins at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 15, and ends at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, May 17. There will be a welcome reception and buffet dinner on the evening of Wednesday, May 14. Accommodation will be available in residences on the campus of Carleton University. The banquet will be held on the evening on May 16, and a publishers' display will be held throughout the meeting.
