Call for papers
WiG-Panel at German Studies Association 2001
German Feminisms in the Context of the New Europe
We invite papers that address German feminism in the context of the new Europe:
how has the EU-integration process influenced German feminism and how have
German feminists responded to the new Europe? Are women's issues addressed
or marginalized in the construction of the new Europe? Have the paradigms
of German feminism changed to address the diversity among women in German
and Europe? Does Europe offer new alliances for minority and immigrant women
(e.g. Afro-German, Turkish-German) across national divides?
Paper topics may include but are not limited to: European (legal and
bureaucratic) institutionalization of feminisms; responses from German feminisms
to the "Festung Europa" including the rise of nationalism, xenophobia and
violence as well as the relationship to non-European countries; German feminist
theories in the context of European theoretical trends (e.g. neo-liberalism);
German feminist critiques of the constructions of Europe, the interaction
between feminist movements form different EU-countries; and the representation
of Europe in feminist cultural productions.
