Historischer Wandel, kulturelle Vielfalt und politische Umbrüche im Nahen Osten gehören zu den Schwerpunkten des bi-nationalen Masterprogramms "Geschichte und Soziologie/Anthropologie des Vorderen Orients in globaler Perspektive" (Middle Eastern Sociology and History - MESH) der Universität Erfurt und der Université Saint Joseph (Beirut, Libanon). Um die Region nicht nur theoretisch aus einer europäischen Perspektive zu studieren, sondern praktisch und in globaler Perspektive, stehen das gemeinsame Studium mit den libanesischen Studierenden in Erfurt und das Auslandssemester an einer Universität im Libanon im Mittelpunkt. Diese Auslandsphase wird durch Stipendien des DAAD gefördert.
Der interdisziplinäre und interkulturelle Studiengang steht grundsätzlich Studierenden fast aller Fachrichtungen offen, sodass in den Seminaren ein lebendiger Austausch verschiedener Perspektiven stattfindet. Gastdozierende aus dem Libanon erweitern das Spektrum zusätzlich.
Im Fokus des Master-Programms steht die Weltregion des
Vorderen Orients. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte sind:
- Interaktionen zwischen dem Nahen Osten und Europa
- (Post-)Kolonialismus
- Raum- und Stadtgeschichte
- Genderfragen
- ethnische und religiöse Vielfalt
Durch dieses Studium erwerben die Studierenden ein einzigartiges Qualifikationsprofil, das fachwissenschaftliche, sowie methodische Kenntnisse und Sprachfähigkeiten verbindet. Dies spiegelt sich im akademischen Doppelabschluss (Master of Arts, M. A./master recherche) wieder, der an Absolventen verliehen wird.
Der Studiengang ist forschungsorientiert und bereitet auf eine Promotion und auf die Forschung in einer der beteiligten Disziplinen oder einem verwandten Fach vor. Darüber hinaus bietet er Berufsperspektiven in der Integrations- und Entwicklungsarbeit, im Journalismus, im Kulturmanagement, der Politik- und Wirtschaftsberatung, im Archiv- und Bibliothekswesen oder der internationalen Jugend- und Erwachsenenbildung.
Aus diesen Gründen ist MESH besonders für Absolventen der Bachelorstudiengänge Islamwissenschaft, Geschichte, Soziologie, Anthropologie, Ethnologie und Politikwissenschaft interessant. Wir freuen uns auf Bewerbungen für Studienplätze mit Stipendium für die Auslandsphase bis zum 15. Juli 2019.

Historical change, cultural diversity and political change in the Middle East are among the central subjects of the binational Master Program "Middle Eastern Sociology/Anthropolgy and History" (MESH) that is currently carried out by the University of Erfurt, Germany and Université Saint-Joseph (Beirut, Lebanon). To enable the students to get a complete understanding of the region and expand their perspective, the joint studies with Lebanese students in Erfurt as well as a mandatory semester abroad in Lebanon are at the heart of the program. This stay abroad is supported with scholarships by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The interdisciplinary and intercultural study program is open to students from various fields, contributing to an exchange of different perspectives in the courses. Guest lecturers from Lebanon further expand the spectrum.
A key concept of the program is the Middle East in global historical context. Contents include historical and societal shifts in East and West, focusing on post colonialism, urban history and the history of space, minorities and gender as well as mutual transfers of knowledge and culture.
This program provides the students with a unique set of qualifications, encompassing specialised scientific, as well as methodical knowledge and language skills. Graduates receive an academic double degree (Master of Arts M. A./master recherche).
The study program is research-oriented and thus prepares the students to secure a doctorate and do research independently in one of the disciplines of the program or neighbouring fields. Moreover graduates will be qualified to enter international careers in diverse fields of expertise, such as integration and development work, journalism, cultural administration, political or business consulting, archive or library systems and international youth and further education.
For these reasons MESH is especially suited for graduates of Middle Eastern Studies, History, Sociology, Anthropology, Ethnology and Political Sciences. We are looking forward to receive applications by the 15th of July 2019 latest.
