International and interdisciplinary „Master in British Studies” (HU Berlin)

The Master in British Studies (M.B.S.) is an international and interdisciplinary postgraduate degree course at the Centre for British Studies, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The course is open to graduates (Bachelor and higher) from all disciplines and it starts in the winter semester.

On the M.B.S. course, students from different nations and with different academic backgrounds study British history, culture and literature, as well as law, politics, business and economy. Courses in the first semester cover all these fields. In the second semester, students can choose between the two options ‘Economy, Law, Politics’ and ‘Culture, Media and Cultural Management’. After this teaching period, students complete an internship in Britain and write their Master thesis.

All classes are conducted in English. The teaching staff consists of academics and practitioners from Germany and the United Kingdom. The Centre for British Studies helps students to arrange placements and has a large number of partners in the UK, for example Members of Parliament, legal practitioners, theatres, museums, banks and other businesses.

The course runs for 3 semesters (90 ECTS) for students whose first degree is equivalent to at least 210 ECTS credits. The course runs for 4 semesters (120 ECTS) for students whose first degree course is equivalent to less than 210, but at least 180 ECTS points. In the shorter version, students spend three months each on their internship and Master thesis; in the longer version six months each.

Every year, thirty students are admitted to the course after being interviewed. Application forms and further particulars can be obtained from: http://www.gbz.hu-berlin.de.
