The Seminar for Ancient History at the University of Tübingen invites applications for the position of a
Postdoctoral Research Fellow (m/f/d, 100%)
to work on the history of the Sassanian world in its Eurasian contexts, with a special focus on its relations with the Graeco-Roman world.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow (m/f/d, 100%)

The position, starting at the earliest convenience in 2023, is attached to the Chair for Ancient History (Sebastian Schmidt-Hofner) and has a duration of four years. Salary will be defined according to the remuneration scheme for public service in the German Federal States (TV-L E14); this amounts to an annual salary between 56.000 to 64.000 €, depending on previous experience, plus allowances for children.

The successful candidate is expected to
- undertake independent research on the history of the Sassanian empire in its Eurasian contexts, with a special focus on its relations with the Graeco-Roman world, leading to a Habilitation or an equivalent achievement such as a second monograph
- teach 4 hours/week for 28 weeks per year in the position’s designated subject area; this amounts to two courses per semester.
- develop research activities in the position’s subject area, including the acquisition of research grants
- participate in research activities at the Seminar for Ancient History in relation to late antique studies

- outstanding PhD and additional research output in the position’s subject area
- command of languages relevant for the research area
- teaching experience
