We would like to invite those working in the field of Holocaust documentation to submit their application for the international EHRI Seminar: Languages, Cultures and Perspectives – How to Read Holocaust Sources, to be held at Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum, Vilnius, June 26 – July 1, 2016 in cooperation with the Center for Holocaust Studies at the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich, Germany.
The Seminar is organized within the framework of the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) project, supported by the European Commission.
New sources and insights
During the EHRI Seminar, new documentation sources and new research insights will be presented, based on expertise, cultures and background of researchers from respective countries. Issues of language as a problematic aspect of research will be discussed. The Seminar will also address current issues of mapping, accessibility and usage.
Variety of disciplines
This EHRI Seminar, which is aimed at the graduate level, offers the unique opportunity for those scholars from a variety of disciplines (historians, sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists and others interested in the Holocaust) as well as archivists working in fields connected with historical archival research to come together and share their experience with others, to talk about how different institutions are dealing with the current challenges and to learn from each other. The places in the Seminar will be awarded on a competitive basis.
Topics that will be presented and discussed at the Seminar will include:
- Mapping Holocaust collections
- Problems in identifying Holocaust documents
- Accessibility of Holocaust related documents
- Problematic aspects of document interpretation
- Collecting and using oral history and personal Holocaust documentation
- Role of problematic documents in dissemination of research results (exhibitions, publications, etc.)
- From documents to research - new topics and perspectives in light of new archival materials
Practical information
The deadline for applications is 31 March 2016. Incomplete applications and late applications will not be considered.

Motivation of reasons for attending this seminar (maximum 1 page)
A letter of recommendation
