The purpose of the workshop is to give young scholars the opportunity of discussing their projects with peers as well as experienced colleagues from over 40 countries. The workshop forms part of the annual meeting of the International Commission of Military History, which will take place under the auspices of the Turkish Commission of Military History in Istanbul from 3 to 8 September 2023.

We will consider proposals on the following themes:
- War and the city in antiquity
- War and the city in the Middle Ages
- War and the city in modern times
- City sieges and siege battles
- War in the city / urban warfare
- Cities and air warfare
- Cities in revolutionary and civil wars
- War and the urban civilian population

Proposals must include a summary of your paper, an academic CV as well as a copy of a current phd student ID from an accredited university.

The Educational Committee will support foreign PhD students with a travel grant of up to 400 Euros. PhD students will have to pay a reduced congress fee of 100 Euros.
