German Studies Association Conference: Medieval and Early Modern German Studies - MEMGS
An interest in the relationship between the textual and the visual characterizes many medieval and early modern works. Manuscripts and printed books are often liberally illustrated, and the text may support, or indeed contradict, the pictures that accompany it. This panel seeks contributions exploring how texts engage with the visual. Topics might include written description of artistic things in literary or technical works, manuals for craft practice, the use of text in pictures (banderoles, diagrams, etc.), or musical renderings of the visual. Send abstracts to Chris Hutchinson (cjhutch1@olemiss.edu) by March 10.
