are pleased to invite applications for
2 Junior Fellowships
for the academic year 2008/2009.
The Junior Fellowships are awarded to graduate students specializing in German-Jewish History of the 20th Century, or the Contemporary History of Israel. The Fellowships are available to doctoral candidates at universities in Israel and Germany. They are designed to enable doctoral candidates with an outstanding academic achievement in advanced stages of their dissertation to pursue their individual research abroad in Jerusalem or Potsdam/Berlin.
Fellows are expected to reside in Jerusalem or Potsdam/Berlin for four consecutive months between February and July 2009. The monthly stipend is EUR 1,200. Additionally, fellows will receive a one-time payment of EUR 500 for costs of materials and supplies. The funding is supposed to cover all expenses, including travel, housing, and insurance. The grants may not be interrupted. The Richard-Koebner-Minerva-Center and the ZZF will provide office space, access to the internet and other relevant facilities. The fellows are invited to participate in the intellectual life of the two institutions, and will be expected to present their project in a seminar or colloquium.
Applicants should have an interest in cultural and social history and must have completed a university degree, at least M.A., M.Sc. (or the equivalent) in History or in the Humanities and Social Sciences with an emphasis on Contemporary History.

The application deadline is January 30, 2009. Decisions will be announced not later than February 10, 2009. All applications must include
1. A letter of interest;
2. A curriculum vitae (including a list of publications, if any; copies of university certificates; registration as a doctoral candidate);
3. A project proposal not exceeding five pages (1,500 words);
4. A letter of recommendation by their academic adviser which shall evaluate the current state of work.
