A position as a full professor in Cultural Studies is available at the Department for the Study of Culture at University of Southern Denmark. The applicant is expected to have competencies at professorate level within the theoretical, methodological and analytical dimensions of Cultural Studies and to have the ambition to contribute to the continued development of the Cultural Studies profile of the institute which includes a cultural practice and dissemination perspective.

The profile of the Cultural Studies group includes the narrow as well as the broader definition of culture (aesthetic culture as well as the culture of the everyday such as gender and body cultures) with attention to culture in use (for example in relation to minorities or health) as well as culture and power (in relation to media, institutions and technologies). The applicant is expected to be experienced in research leadership and with external funding and to have built an international network and a collaborative framework. Within the obligations of the position is to take lead of research groups and interdisciplinary research at the department as well as contributing to the continued elaboration of the educational profile within and across disciplines and with responsibility for the MA in Culture and Communication and the supplementary course in Aesthetic Cultural Analysis.

The applicant is asked to include a vision (max 2-3 pages) for the future profile of Cultural Studies at the Department for the Study of Culture in terms of both research and education. The vision is expected to address comparative national and international perspectives and possible collaborations as well as the issue of societal relevance and impact. Furthermore the vision should address interdisciplinary collaboration across the faculties and preferably relate to the general strategy of the university (https://www.sdu.dk/en/om_sdu/sdus_profil/strategi).

Application, salary, and condition of employment etc.

Employment shall be on the terms specified in the labour market agreement and the salary shall correspond to LR 37 (pay bracket 37) annually DKK 536.665,33 plus pension (1st April 2016 level). To this must be added a non-pension-qualifying supplement of DKK 52.935,93 (1st April 2016 level) from the executive pool.

Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations in regard to related degree programs.

Applicants for a professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications.

The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.

If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
