We are looking for 1 research and teaching assistant in the field of Non-European and Global History (AGG).

Duties and functions:
- Scientific support in research and teaching.
- Project management and active scientific engagement in the research projects of the AGG on maritime history of Asia, in particular the project "Appraising Risks, Past and Present: Interrogating Historical Data to Enhance Understanding of Environmental Crises in the Indian Ocean World"
- Installation and management of historical-geographic databases, editorial support for scientific publications.

The appointment is for 50 per cent of full-time for two years (20 working hours per week), 2 hours per week of teaching obligation.

Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Non-European and Global History or a comparable degree, best in Sinolgy, with a focus on Global History. The successful candidate should be qualified in the history of Asia (between approx. 500 and 1800), preferably China, with a research fosuc on cross-cultural and/or commercial exchange relations and/or knowledge transfer across the preferably maritime Silk Routes.
- Fluency in English, best as native speaker, and excellent knowledge of premodern and modern Chinese are expected.
- Good IT skills, particularly in the installation and management of databases.
- Working languages are German and English (German is not an absolute requirement but the language spoken at the university is German and basic knowledge would be desired, as well as the willingness to learn more German).

Desired additional qualifications:
- Knowledge in one or two other foreign languages, such as French, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, Persian and/or Manchu, etc.
