The Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) in Mainz
invites applications for a

Research Associate
in Historical Peace Research (75%)

for the duration of 24 months from 1 May 2018.

Project profile
IEG is part of an international research consortium funded by the European Union, which aims to make key contributions to research and education in the field of religious toleration and peace. The project brings together universities and research institutions all over Europe in order to understand religious coexistence in history, to gain insights into its contemporary representations and to empower teenagers to engage with issues of religious coexistence. In the consortium the IEG will coordinate and conduct interdisciplinary research into historical peace treaties in Europe with the aim of understanding different ways in which they dealt with various aspects of religious coexistence.

Job profile
The job holder will contribute to the historical research conducted at several partner institutions. The tasks include building a digital corpus of peace treaties, producing abridged editions with summaries of the historical context as well as analyzing the content of the settlements to identify key topics and building a typology. She or he will organize meetings, produce reports and contribute to the joint data collection.

Requirements
Candidates will hold a pertinent university degree (at M.A. or PhD-level) e.g. in the divinities, historical theology, or related historical disciplines. The position requires a well connected team player with an excellent command of the English language and at least one other European language. She or he has basic German skills or expresses interest in learning German in due time.

The salary accords to German pay grade TV-L EG 13. IEG is an equal opportunity/affirmative-action employer. In case of equality of qualification and suitability of applicants, the applications made by female researchers will be given preferential consideration.
