Theory and History of Architecture

Subject description

The subject encompasses studies of architecture and the built environment as understood from both theoretical and historical perspectives. Leaning towards the history of recent pasts and critical, historiographical studies, the subject takes analyses of contemporary conditions as its point of departure. Focus is placed on studies of the post-war architecture and built environment, although a broader interpretation is not excluded.

Duties

The position demands participation in both research and education in first- and second-cycle courses within the architectural program, as well as supervision and participation in third-cycle courses within the doctoral programme in architecture. Besides teaching on a practical basis, this also includes examination and course coordination, as well as pedagogical development. Duties within research include independently establishing new collaborations and research projects, through applications and research funding, as well as managing and developing research within the theory and history of architecture, and in collaboration with other subject fields and sub areas within architecture. The position may include faculty work and leadership assignments in relation to both research and education.

Eligibility requirements

Qualified for appointment as an associate professor is a person who has:

been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
demonstrated teaching expertise.
Grounds of assessment

1. Of highest importance is that the applicant has

research expertise within the subject field, demonstrated through scientific publication in journals and books that are relevant to the subject field, conference participation, established research collaborations as well as other commissions within the research community, such as peer-review or expert assessments
teaching expertise within the subject field in both first-/second- as well as third-cycle education

2. It is of second highest importance that the applicant has

administrative skills in relation to education and research activities
experience in course development in first-/second- or third-cycle education
experience in teaching within similar programs
ability to initiate and run research projects, and to be awarded research grants

3. It is also of importance is that the applicant has

expertise to develop and lead activities and staff, which includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality
ability to pursue third-stream activities and also provide information about research and development work
interpersonal skills
