Job description
The Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen is seeking a professor of Contemporary History (history from 1945 to the present). The professor will be responsible for teaching and research in his/her field of expertise. The professor will head a large, varied chair group comprising UHDs, UDs, PhD students and temporary lecturers. The new professor will manage the History degree programmes together with the current professors of History. The new professor must have leadership qualities and be able to create and strengthen bonds between the department, the research field and society. The ratio between research duties and teaching and management duties will be 40:60.

The position involves:
- managing the chair group and staff members
- coordinating and teaching bachelor’s and master’s course units
- coordinating and conducting research in the field of the chair mandate
- supervising PhD candidates
- acquiring external funds for teaching and research
- performing administrative and organizational tasks within the Faculty and where necessary outside it
- further cultivating and developing national and international contacts to benefit the chair-related teaching and research
- contributing to teaching and research valorization.
Qualifications

Interested parties must:
- have a PhD in the field of Contemporary History
- be experienced lecturers, have a University Teaching Qualification as well as ample research experience in the field of Contemporary History
- have demonstrable familiarity with recent developments in the field of digital sources
- have experience in supervising PhD students, as demonstrated by several successfully completed PhD’s
- have demonstrable guiding and inspiring leadership and administrative skills
- have demonstrable experience in the field of curriculum development and educational innovation
- have recently been successful at acquiring external funds for teaching and research
- be able to promote interest in the field, as demonstrated by presentations in the media
- if necessary, be prepared to acquire an active command of Dutch within 2 years
- be prepared to move to the Groningen area.

Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers an appointment as a Full Professor 2 (starting as soon as possible). The salary will be € 5,003 to € 7,285 gross per month for full-time employment (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU)), depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
