This one-year taught Masters programme offers interdisciplinary courses on American history, politics, and culture. Internationally leading experts in their fields teach students on topics such as: America and the World, American Sports Cultures, Mediating America, Cultures of Secrecy, Southern Gothic, Passing in American Culture, US Politics, an Internship Module and Global Evangelicalism. The programme is an excellent preparation for advanced research both in Europe and the United States and a source of top talent for employers with an interest in the U.S. Our students come from the US, the UK, Europe and South America to produce a truly transnational perspective. Degree Structure:
Students take 2 core modules (‘Introduction to American Studies’ and ‘Researching America’), are closely supervised to complete a 15,000 word dissertation, and choose a number of optional modules from the Institute of North American Studies and other departments in the university.

The Institute of North American Studies at King’s College London provides a focal point for US-related activities across a range of academic disciplines. It aims to understand the flows of power coming in and out of the United States and interrogates understandings of ‘America’ as a political, geographic, and cultural entity. The Institute builds on King’s long standing excellence in the field of American Studies and provides its MA and PhD students with a vibrant research culture, strong international partnerships with universities in the United States and committed supervisors.
