The music department at Oxford Brookes University now offers four different pathways on its MA in Music programme:

- Music and Popular Culture
- Music on Stage and on Screen
- Contemporary Practice in Composition, and - most recently -
- Music in 19th-Century Culture

We are a friendly, forward-thinking and research-driven department. Teaching is delivered by faculty members who have produced internationally-recognised research, including Jan Butler (film music), Paul Dibley (electroacoustic composition), Barbara Eichner (19th-century music), Dai Griffiths (popular music), Paul Whitty (sonic art) and Alexandra Wilson (opera).

Our MA students take part in lively seminars, workshops and tutorials and gain an in-depth understanding of recent critical debates, scholarship and practice in their chosen area of music. They receive a thorough grounding in advanced musical studies and have the opportunity to undertake independent research in your own particular area of interest. They are also fully integrated in the activities of the three music-related research clusters at Oxford Brookes: OBERTO (opera) PMRU (popular music) and SARU (sonic art).

We are currently inviting applications for an AHRC-funded studentship for the year 2012-13. For further information on how to apply, please go to www.brookes.ac.uk/brookesnet/graduateoffice/prospective/research/ahrc
