Das Deutsche Historische Institut in Washington in der Stiftung Deutsche Geisteswissenschaftliche Institute im Ausland vergibt ein

1. ) Postdoc-Stipendium für Nordamerikanische Geschichte

Die Bewerber/innen sollten in Neuerer/Neuester Geschichte oder amerikanischer Geschiche promoviert sein. Mögliche Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Geschichte Nordamerikas von der Kolonialzeit bis zum 20. Jahrhundert, vergleichende Geschichte oder internationale Geschichte (jeweils mit Nordamerika-Schwerpunkt).

Das Stipendium wird beginnend am 1. September 2011 zunächst für sechs Monate vergeben. Eine Verlängerung um bis zu sechs Monate ist, abhängig von den zur Verfügung stehenden Geldern, möglich. Neben dem Stipendium in Höhe von monatlich Euro 3,150 erhält die/der erfolgreiche Bewerber/in Zuschüsse für Forschungsreisen sowie die Möglichkeit, einen Workshop mit amerikanischen Kollegen/innen durchzuführen. Außerdem werden die Kosten für einen Hin und Rückflug von und nach Deutschland übernommen.

2. ) Fellowship in the History of Consumption

The German Historical Institute, Washington, DC, is now accepting applications for a 6 to 12-month fellowship in the American or European History of Consumption. The recipient should begin the term September 1, 2012.

Preference is given to applicants on the postdoctoral level. The fellow is expected to be in residence at the GHI and participate in GHI activities and events, including planning a workshop on the history of consumption. The fellow will have the opportunity to make use of the resources in the Washington, DC area, including the Library of Congress and the National Archives, while pursuing his or her own research agenda.

The monthly stipend is Euro 3000 for EU citizens and $3200 for US citizens. In addition, fellowship recipients based in Europe will receive reimbursement for their round-trip airfare to the US.

The next deadline for applications is February 15, 2012. To apply please send a cover letter, a CV, a 5-page research project proposal, a one-page proposal for a workshop, and two writing samples, such as an article or a book chapter. While applicants may write in either English or German, we recommend that they use the language in which they are most proficient. Submission of documents by email is strongly preferred. 3. ) Doctoral Fellowship in the History of African Americans

The German Historical Institute, Washington, DC, is now accepting applications for a 6 to 12-month doctoral fellowship in the History of African Americans. The recipient should begin the term September 1, 2012.

The fellow will be expected to be in residence at the GHI and participate in GHI activities and events. The fellow will have the opportunity to make use of the resources in the Washington, DC, area, including the Library of Congress and the National Archives, while pursuing his or her own research agenda. Travel within the US to work in archives and libraries will also be possible.

The monthly stipend is Euro 1,700 for doctoral students from European institutions; students based at North American institutions will receive a stipend of $1,900. In addition, fellowship recipients based in Europe will receive reimbursement for their round-trip airfare to the US.

While applications may be written in either English or German, we recommend that applicants use the language in which they are most proficient. They will be notified approximately six weeks after the deadline.
