The Institute of Economic and Social History of the University of Lausanne (UNIL) is opening the position of:
Research Assistant at doctoral level
Starting on: 01.04.2012 or date to be agreed
Contract terms: 1 year, renewable one time for 2 years
Activity rate: 100%
Location: Lausanne Dorigny
The monthly salary will be of CHF 4'100.- (12x) during the first year, the second year CHF 4'300.-, the third year CHF 4'550.-.
Requirements:
Master in history, or equivalent degree in social sciences
Excellent knowledge of French and/or English; knowledge of other languages is an asset. The candidate should be familiar with the history of international organizations and/or the history of international public health. She or he must be willing to achieve a PhD in contemporary history and willing to work on a thesis related to the research project.
Job description:
This job is offered as part of the project “Patterns of transnational regulation: How networks and institutions shaped societies and markets throughout the 20th Century”. The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) entirely funds this project, which is jointly carried out by the Universities of Basel, Geneva, Lausanne and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies of Geneva (hereafter, GI). The candidate will undertake research for her/his PhD and for the project on the internationalization of public health after 1945. The candidate will write her/his thesis under the co-direction of Professors Thomas David (UNIL) and Davide Rodogno (GI). She or he will particularly focus on the role of international organizations such as the World Health Organization and on the involvement of philanthropic foundations. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the project in various ways, i.e. the achievement of the dissertation and the publication of articles. The UNIL and the GI ensure an adequate structure and stimulating intellectual atmosphere, an interdisciplinary environment and a team of historians and political scientists highly committed to this research project.
