1. Fellowship in Economic and Social History

The German Historical Institute, Washington, DC, is now accepting applications for a 6 to 12-month fellowship in American or European Economic and Social History. The recipient should begin the term September 1, 2015.

Preference is given to applicants on the postdoctoral level. The Fellow is expected to be in residence at the GHI and participate in GHI activities and events, including planning an economic/social history workshop financed by the GHI. The Fellow will have the opportunity to make use of the resources in the Washington, DC area, including the Library of Congress and the National Archives, while pursuing his or her own research agenda. Candidates doing original research for a second book project will be preferred.

The monthly stipend is € 3000 for EU citizens and $3200 for US citizens. In addition, fellowship recipients based in Europe will receive reimbursement for their round-trip airfare to the US.

To apply please send a cover letter, a CV, a copy of your last diploma, the names and contact information of three references, a research project proposal (5-pages or 2,000 words max), a one-page proposal for an economic/social history workshop, and two writing samples, such as an article or a book chapter, no later than December 1, 2014. 2. Fellowship in the History of Consumption

The German Historical Institute, Washington, DC, is now accepting applications for a 6 to 12-month fellowship in the American or European History of Consumption. The recipient should begin the term September 1, 2015.

3. Stipendium für Nordamerikanische Geschichte

Deutsche Historische Institut in Washington, D.C. vergibt ein Stipendium für Nordamerikanische Geschichte. Die Bewerber/innen sollten in Neuerer/Neuester Geschichte oder amerikanischer Geschichte promovierern oder habilitieren. Mögliche Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Geschichte Nordamerikas von der Kolonialzeit bis zum 21. Jahrhundert, vergleichende Geschichte oder internationale Geschichte (jeweils mit Nordamerika-Schwerpunkt).

Das Stipendium wird beginnend am 1. September 2015 zunächst für sechs bis zwölf Monate vergeben. Neben einer Unterhaltszahlung in Höhe von monatlich € 1,700 (für Doktoranden) / €3,000 (für Habilitierende) erhält die/der erfolgreiche Bewerber/in einen Arbeitsplatz hier am Institut und Zuschüsse für Forschungsreisen. Bei Vorlage eines überzeugenden Vorschlags ist es für Habilitierende im Rahmen des Stipendiums zudem möglich, einen Workshop mit amerikanischen Kollegen/innen durchzuführen. Außerdem werden die Kosten für einen Hin und Rückflug von und nach Deutschland übernommen.

4. Doctoral Fellowship in International Business History

Preference will be given to fellows whose projects fit into the GHI's research foci on transatlantic relations and the history of consumption. Comparative work is also strongly encouraged.

The fellow will be expected to be in residence at the GHI and participate in GHI activities and events. The fellow will have the opportunity to make use of the resources in the Washington, DC, area, including the Library of Congress and the National Archives, while pursuing his or her own research agenda. Travel within the US to work in archives and libraries will also be possible.

The monthly stipend is €1,700 for doctoral students from European institutions; students based at North American institutions will receive a stipend of $1,900. In addition, fellowship recipients based in Europe will receive reimbursement for their round-trip airfare to the US.

5. Doctoral Fellowship in African American History

German Historical Institute, Washington, DC, is now accepting applications for a 6 to 12-month doctoral fellowship in African American History. The recipient should begin the term September 1, 2015.

The fellow will be expected to be in residence at the GHI and participate in GHI activities and events. The fellowship is primarily for research and is not intended simply to aid manuscript composition or revision.The fellow will have the opportunity to make use of the resources in the Washington, DC, area, including the Library of Congress and the National Archives, while pursuing his or her own research agenda. Travel within the US to work in archives and libraries will also be possible.

The monthly stipend is €1,700 for doctoral students from European institutions; students based at North American institutions will receive a stipend of $1,900. In addition, fellowship recipients based in Europe will receive reimbursement for their round-trip airfare to the US.
