Background

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) currently has 31 member countries, five observer countries, and six permanent international partners. It consists of more than 300 delegates, representing governments as well as non-governmental organizations. Twice a year, these delegates come together for IHRA Plenary meetings.

The purpose of the IHRA is to place political and social leaders’ support behind the need for Holocaust education, remembrance and research both nationally and internationally. To this end, the IHRA diplomats and experts formulate policies and recommendations on political, educational, academic and remembrance issues related to the Holocaust. IHRA also reviews and funds multilateral projects that seek to promote Holocaust education, remembrance and research.

Headed by the Executive Secretary and composed of three staff members and an intern, the Permanent Office coordinates the IHRA’s activities. It provides support and advice to the IHRA Chair, assists with the organization of the bi-annual Plenary and other meetings, represents the IHRA at international meetings, processes grant applications, and facilitates the flow of information among IHRA delegates and vis-à-vis external interlocutors. The Permanent Office is also responsible for the IHRA’s website and hosts the IHRA’s institutional archive.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The Permanent Office of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) is recruiting an intern.

Within the Permanent Office, and under the guidance and direct supervision of the team, the following duties will be assigned to the intern:

- Support the workflow (including travel arrangements) of the Permanent Office in a fastpaced office environment;
- Draft and summarize news articles and updates for the IHRA website;
- Facilitate social media channels and activities;
- Assist with the review process of grant applications;
- Assist with the preparation of IHRA meetings and the Chairmanship handover;
- Support the archiving of IHRA documents;
- Administrative support and other duties as assigned.

Candidate’s Qualifications
Candidates without EU/EEA citizenship should provide the necessary work and residence permit for an internship in Berlin as well as proof of BaFin-approved health insurance.

Expected qualifications include:

- Interest in Holocaust education, remembrance and research and international cooperation;
- Fluency and excellent drafting skills in English; German language skills are also required
- Ability to deal with sensitive political issues;
- Experience in working with advanced IT tools, Microsoft Office, and social media channels in a professional context;
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds;
- Willingness to travel to IHRA meetings, if necessary;
- Reliability and a general openness towards a variety of different, including administrative, tasks.

Further Details

An appropriate stipend will be provided for this position. The work pattern will be approx. 32 hours per week over four days.
