Die "anglo-amerikanischen" Cultural Studies und die "mitteleuropaeischen" Kultur- bzw. Geisteswissenschaften repraesentieren zwei markant unterschiedliche Formen von Kultur- und Gesellschaftsanalyse: Die "Cultural Studies" verstehen sich in der Tradition von Raymond Williams und Stuart Hall als explizit politisches, interventionistisches und oft neomarxistisch inspiriertes Projekt, das gesellschaftliche Machtverhaltnisse veraendern will. Dem gesellschaftsferneren, hermeneutischen Modell der Humanities geht es hingegen mehr um historisches Verstehen und subjektbezogene Spaetaufklaerung, denn um konkrete politische Veraenderung. Dieser Workshop in englischer Sprache soll die forschungsstrategischen und diskurspolitischen Vor- und Nachteile beider Richtungen sowie Potentiale wechselseitiger Innovationen eroertern.
