Call for Papers
The German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C., invites papers for a conference entitled "Before Television: Mass Media, Political Cultures, and the Public Sphere in Western Europe and the United States, 1900-1950," to be held September 23-25, 1999, in Washington, D.C. We welcome proposals that deal with all aspects of the impact of mass media on politics and culture and that employ a variety of methodological approaches. Comparative papers are especially welcome. Applicants are invited to submit proposals no more than 2 pages in length as well as a brief curriculum vitae. Funds for travel and hotel accommodations are available. Deadline is December 1, 1998.
